Please do not read this blog entry if you haven’t yet watched this weeks episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead.

First I need to saw just , wow! This episode was so intense, emotional and stressful. This is truly the best season of the show.

No one is safe on The Walking Dead.
Tonight’s episode starts with a mystery person opening gates and leading walkers toward the prison. That is never good. Axel and Oscar beg to join the group but Rick gives them a choice of staying in their assigned cell block or hitting the road. Oscar would rather take his chances on the outside so Rick locks them into the dog run of the prison fence.

Then the walkers start coming and coming from every angle. Rick, Glen and Daryl are In the dog run and start running toward the rest of the group in the yard who are fighting walkers. Hershel and Beth hurry to a gated area as do Lori, Carl, and Maggie. Carole is with T-Dog. They all disappear into different corridors in the prison. Zombie corner them in every direction. T- dog is bitten by a walker but insists on leading Carole to safety. When two walkers block their path T-dog sacrifices himself so Carole can get away and has his hand chewed on and his throat ripped out by a walker. I was shocked.

Meanwhile, Lori, begins to have pains and feels that something isn’t right and exclaims “the baby is coming. ” Taking charge, Carl leads Lori and Maggie into some boiler room. Lori is in labor. Maggie checks her out and her hand come up with blood. Lori suffers from placental abruption. She is not dilated enough to push the baby out. She has to save her baby, she decides and asks Maggie to cut the baby out of her. Now this scenario could have one of two outcomes.

1. The c section is performed and Lori dies from the bleed out and the pain. The baby survives.

2. The placental abruption starves the baby of oxygen and dies. The baby becomes a walker (or would that be a crawler?) and we have ourselves a reenactment of the birth scene from 1979’s Alien and Lori dies anyway.

Either way Lori is dead.

Meanwhile Rick, Daryl and Glenn find the power room to turn off the alarms. Rick is attacked by Andrew and in the struggle Rick loses his gun. Oscar picks it up and it looks like he’s going to shoot Rick but ends up shooting Andrew. He proves his worth and will become part of the group.

Meanwhile in Woodbury, Michonne, suspicious of the Govenor questions him about the fate of the National guardsmen and the bullet holes and blood on the truck. The Govenor bullshits his way though a conversation about it but Michonne isn’t buying it.

Andrea and Merle are discussing where she last saw Daryl and shows Merle a map of where the farm was. I think that Andrea thinks the group is at the farm and wants to help Merle reunite with Daryl. He apparently also fancies Andrea and asks her why they never hooked up.

“Because you called me a whore.” She answers

“I have a way with words, don’t I? Quips Merle.

Andrea and the Governor have a conversation over a drink about Merle and the info she gave him. It is clear these two want each other. They should just get it on already. That fact is further illustrated when in the next scene we see Andrea trying to convince Michonne to stay a day or two.

Lori prepares Carl for her death as she prepares herself for the big cut. In a poignant scene she says to Carl and he kneels at near her head,

“Baby, I don’t want you to be scared. Take care of your little brother or sister. “You are going to beat this world, I know you will, you are smart and you are so brave.”

Just before Maggie cuts her open she lets out a sigh and says “goodnight, love.” Maggie cuts her open, she screams in agony and dies. It seems like the baby might not have made it when suddenly the baby cries. Carl decides he has to be the one to shoot his mother. Maggie leaves and the camera follows her and we hear the gun shot.

They are all in the yard, after discovering t-dogs body and Carole’s scarf in the corridor and they hear a baby crying. Rick turns slowly and sees Maggie with the baby and Carl. No Lori.
Rick sobs saying

“Oh, no. No. No. No. No” as he walks beside Carl who has his head bowed and is holding the gun. He falls over onto his back crying like a baby. Poor Rick. That scene really broke my heart. Fantastic acting on Andrew Lincoln’s part as well. Rick will never be the same.

I close this entry with the question: Who is the “Killer Within?”

Andrew?
Lori’s unborn baby?
The Governor?
The Walker Virus?
