Solo Travel for Women

I don’t consider myself a world traveler.  I have been to but a handful of countries in this big beautiful world.  The places I have been I have loved. With the exception of Atlanta and NYC, not one of these places have I traveled without my husband or other companion.

I am a listener of the Conde Nast Traveler podcast, “Travelogue”. They recently discussed a newer and ongoing trend of women traveling solo. Truthfully, I know that this is not a surprising trend, nor do I think it is really out of the ordinary even though I rarely get the opportunity to travel by myself.  I would love a crack at traveling solo to Europe.  Even though I was terrified at the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul to have all those shop owners coming toward me in droves I think I would do okay with some brief travel by myself.

According to Conde Nast Traveler Women are becoming more adventurous traveler and are doing it alone. Solo women travel is on the rise. There has been the development of women only tours, hotels, hotel floors, and female only rows on airplanes. There are companies which cater to the needs of the female solo traveler and can offer information about things that women are concerned about. (ie where to find tampons in a particular area, city or rural area- believe it or not they can sometimes be hard to find.)

There are several women only tour groups out there. Just a quick internet search found me several companies that specilize in Women’s Travel
