Clinical Catch up

Wow, I haven’t said much on this blog since my exam. I don’t recall if I said I did poorly on it or not. Well, I did according to nursing school standards my score is failing. (76). I am ashamed an nervous about the rest of the exams.(2)

My last day of clinical was kind busy with my one patient who needed a lot of care. It was all good though And I enjoyed it. I had baked double chocolate chip cookies for the nurses on our floor. And apparently they enjoyed them. I am thankful for the great staff on our floor during clinicals. Others made treats too do there was a lot of treats for them. We got to leave at 5 pm that day.

My first mental health clinical was interesting. I may have already written about it but let’s just say it was a fascinating experience with how these people behave when all in one room together. One of the patients reminded me of Starr Jones and another of Marlon Brando. They didn’t get along well.

Our clinical simulation day, last tuesday, was a bit miserable for me. I got sick the day before while at work and had sneezing, coughing, runny nose and an excess of snot. I got checked off (again ) on a central line dressing change and cardiac assessment (how long is a cardiac cycle anyway? I said one minute but apparently I’m wrong) then I waited and helped others with running through the other possible check offs ( Tracy auctioning and care with pulmonary assessment and inserting of an NG tube. I was amazed at what I remembered.

At 2:30 it was my turn to do the simulation. The teacher sat in a separate room and watched us while giving the sim man symptoms and problems on the monitor. We had to give him mess as well after we took care of the more important acute problem of low saturations and complaints of SOB. We were probably in the for 45 minute including debriefing. Then the teacher let me go home because I was so miserable.

I missed the 2nd mental health day due to my illness so now I have to make it up the Wednesday after Thanksgiving.

This week we are working on respiratory stuff. I’ve already completed my two discussion board posts and now need to respond to others and do my learning questions for this week.

Exam in 2 weeks.
