What I’ve been Reading

I’m a reader.  I’ve loved reading for long time.  I started reading very early in my life. Typically I read, medical thrillers, Chick Lit and Biographies.

I recently got a library card in my county (I’ve lived here two years and just got one)  This allows me to borrow e-books and audio books as well as physical books.   I have only borrowed audio books thus far.  My e- reader is a nook.

Here’s what I’ve been reading with my eyes….

I just finished this one.  This one is about a young educated girl who works in a “branding” firm in Londontown and it’s about her adventures and misadventures of her no so perfect life. I loved it. From the Shopaholic series to this book I love all of them. Reading a Sophie Kinsella book is like putting on a comfy pair of fuzzy sox in winter.

I started this one from a New-to-me author. So far it has been wonderful, athough I put it aside to read the new Sophie Kinsella book above. It’s set in Maine at a Bed and Breakfast with a mother and daughter. I can’t wait to get back to it!

This is a horror text on Films of the (what was new) French cinematic movement. I’ve seen at least one of these films (on my first date with my husband) and would like to see more. Althought they are hard to locate some of them. This is written by Alexandra West who is half the duo that does the Faculty of Horror podcast which looks at horror from an academic and sociological perspective. “From the Horrored Halls of Academia.”  It’s my favorite podcast.

This is an anthology by Stephen King of several new and old stories and the stories of the inspiration of how, when, where, and why he wrote them. As of late I really have to be in the mood to read Stephen King and I have read 81 pages of it. I will get back to it…eventually.

I decided to read this classic book by Helen Gurley Brown because I was curious and I got it for $2 on my Nook. As a modern woman I couldn’t finish because It felt like a load of schlock to me. Plain and Simple.

This was her last book and it was about her experiences filming the first Star Wars movie: A New Hope. I didn’t know about it until the day she died. I enjoyed this book a lot. I always enjoy her hilarious and thoughtful writing. I was pleased to read about her affair with Harrison Ford another one of my favorites. Was also something I thought may have happened. I enjoyed also the background info about the audition process for and the filming of Star Wars. I had no idea she had been so young. I was planning to read this book later but she died the day I started this book in the middle of another one because she tragically died. She references her death a few times in this book as well.

Yep it’s that Scientology book that I started back in December which I read about 25% of but it’s a heavy read and I had to put it aside for a while. The stark realities of Scientology.

This was just the best book about Lauren Grahams experience with filming the Gilmore Girls: A year in the Life for Netflix. In this collection of personal essays, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood reveals stories about life, love, and working as a woman in Hollywood—along with behind-the-scenes dispatches from the set of the new Gilmore Girls, where she plays the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore once again. I finshed this one on Dec 22, 2016.

Here is what I’ve been Reading with my ears:

I am currently listening to this book.  It’s  a part of a series and so far I like it but I hate the reader.  I hope she doesn’t read the entire series of four books.  This is about a wedding planner who after personal tragedy accepts a job at a NYC wedding planning agency called The Wedding Belles. She meets a man through her job and it goes from there.

When I get tired of listening to the reader of the above book I will switch over to a book I’ve already read but love.

I love Tom Cruise despite his being in that Scientology Cult. This is an unauthorized biography by Andrew Morton who also wrote a bio of Princess Diana. It was a little slow to start but got much better after they finished his early life (which apparently I didn’t give a crap about) and started on his film career. it got more interesting. I just finished this book about a week ago.

This book is by Naya Rivera of Glee Fame. This is an incredible and surprising memoir read by Naya herself and is a no nonesense no bullshit account of her life and career so far. Very good.

Yes another Scientology book. This one Jenna Miscavage, niece to Scientology leader David Miscavage. This book is about her harrowing journey through Scientology’s ranks in the Sea Org and her punishments dished out by the same. It’s a good listen and teaches a lot about Scientology the good, the bad, and the ugly.  This is the first audio book I borrowed.
