Practicum Day 4

I feel so behind in my practicum shifts. Partly because I had to go home on Wednesday and party because several of my classmates are doing 3-4 days a week to get it done quickly.  I can’t do that I just don’t have the stamina.  So I am going slower than everyone else I guess. Oh well.

Practicum was very busy yesterday.  So much stuff to do with our patients (my two and the other two)  It was a good day and I did a ton of stuff and got to see a bedside thoracentesis which I have NEVER seen before despite being an RT for 11 years.

I started my first IV and was successful!  I am very excited about this because I had never done it on a human being and I learned how to do IV’s in October 2010!  I am feeling more confident now in assessment, dealing with difficult patients and I am really enjoying my time on this unit.  Everyone is nice and they really work together.  So I love it.  I just like nursing.  What a difference compared to my normal job.

Still haven’t gotten to look at her schedule to find a makeup day because we were so busy and she didn’t leave until 8:30pm due to all the charting (and my charting checking) and the ECG strips (which I am getting better at).  Then I was there until around 9:15 pm pulling patient information for my case study which is due this Monday.  I am so thankful there is no discussion for Module 4 this week.

I was so wired last night that I took a couple of diphenhydramine to sleep last night and I woke up feeling like I got hit by a truck so I am a little behind in all the work I want to accomplish today.

I am hanging in there keeping the eye on the prize.  Pinning is 33 days away!! It has been an adventure!
