The Call to Come
Reading: Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
Jesus invites us with a simple word: “Come.” This isn’t just a decision—it’s a direction. When we come to Jesus, we’re choosing to turn from our own path and follow His. The early church understood this. They devoted themselves completely, changing direction from self-reliance to God-dependence. Coming to Jesus means laying down what’s familiar and comfortable. It means acknowledging that the direction we’ve been heading isn’t leading to life. Today, consider what Jesus is asking you to lay down. What comfortable patterns need to change? Coming to Jesus always requires leaving something behind, but what we gain—rest for our souls—far exceeds what we surrender.
Reflection: What is one area where God is asking you to change direction today?
