Reading: Matthew 4:18-22; Luke 5:11
Matthew 4:18-22
“As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.”
Luke 5:11
“So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.”
When Jesus called Peter and Andrew, they immediately left their nets—their livelihood,
their comfort, their familiar routine. Following Jesus isn’t merely a decision we make once;
it’s a daily direction we choose. What is the one thing you would not want Jesus to ask you
to lay down? That very thing might be what’s keeping you from your “immeasurably more”
moment. God isn’t calling you to a comfortable Christianity where you show up when
convenient. He’s calling you to abandon what’s familiar and step into the uncomfortable
work of transformation. Today, identify one area where comfort has become your idol. Are
you holding back in worship, service, or generosity because it feels uncomfortable? Jesus
left heaven’s comfort for you—what will you leave for Him?
